We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. Everything at Moody falls under the authority of the Bible, which declares timeless truth that is relevant today. The Word is the foundation for both our understanding of God and our awareness of what He has called us to be in His world.

DOCTRINAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR STUDENTS

To maintain continuity and consistency with its heritage, Moody Bible Institute requires all faculty and administration to agree with, personally adhere to, and support the school's doctrinal statements. These distinctives identify what is believed and taught in our classes. 

The school recognizes, however, that its specific theological positions do not define orthodoxy for the whole of the body of Christ. For this reason, Moody Bible Institute accepts students from other theological traditions within conservative evangelicalism.

To be admitted and to graduate, students must personally adhere to and support the following doctrinal positions:

  • the inspiration, authority, and inerrancy of Scripture
  • the Trinity
  • the full deity and full humanity of Christ
  • the creation of the human race in the image of God
  • the spiritual lostness of the human race
  • the substitutionary atonement and bodily resurrection of Christ
  • salvation by grace through faith alone in Christ alone
  • the physical and imminent return of Christ

Doctrinal Statement


Article I

God is triune, one Being eternally existing in three co-equal Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; these divine Persons, together possessing the same eternal perfections, work inseparably and harmoniously in creating, sustaining, and redeeming the world.

Article II

The Bible, including both the Old and the New Testaments, is a divine revelation, the original autographs of which were verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Article III

Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, which is to say, He is Himself very God; He took upon Him our nature, being conceived by the Holy Ghost and born of the Virgin Mary; He died upon the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sin of the world; He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified; He ascended into heaven in that body glorified, where He is now, our interceding High Priest; He will come again personally and visibly to set up His kingdom and to judge the quick and the dead.

Article IV

Man was created in the image of God but fell into sin, and, in that sense, is lost; this is true of all men, and except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God; salvation is by grace through faith in Christ who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree; the retribution of the wicked and unbelieving and the reward of the righteous are everlasting, and as the reward is conscious, so is the retribution.

Article V

The Church is an elect company of believers baptized by the Holy Spirit into one body; its mission is to witness concerning its Head, Jesus Christ, preaching the gospel among all nations; it will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air ere He appears to set up His kingdom.

Moody student organizations exist to edify and mature our student body, honing students' gifts and broadening their knowledge of the world. Each of Moody's over 30 student organizations has a specific focus and also helps to give students an opportunity to learn about issues such as leadership, cross-cultural understanding, mentoring, outreach, media, and personal wellness.

Residence Life

The goal of Residence Life is to foster a residence hall environment where students experience caring relationships with people serving one another and encouraging each other to seek Christ and make connections between their faith and their everyday life. When students leave Moody, our hope is that they will apply what they have experienced in the residence halls and authentically model a life of faithfully following Jesus Christ. We hope they will intentionally foster caring relationships which reflect Christ's love for all people, be willing to speak words of encouragement and respond lovingly to breakdowns in integrity.

First Year Experience (FYE)

What is First Year Experience (FYE)? Programs like FYE are found in colleges and universities nationwide and even around the world. The programs may differ from school to school, but they all are designed to help new students transition to higher education. At Moody, the goal of FYE is to facilitate new-student thriving: socially, academically, and spiritually.
